Embracing the Unfinished Work

You ever have those days when it feels like you’re just constantly trying to finish something? I wake up each day already thinking about the things left undone from yesterday, then it’s a race to get through the long list of things I need to finish today—office work, chores, grocery shopping, meal prep... it’s a never-ending cycle of “unfinished.”
But you know what hit me today?
I was standing in the kitchen drinking my coffee, watching the snow fall over the mud where I need to plant grass seed (another unfinished project), and in the quiet, I realized something: it’s okay to be unfinished.

God spoke to me in that moment. The snow, slowly melting over the mud, was a reminder that sometimes it’s in the slow, messy, and unfinished parts that we find peace. Life isn’t about getting everything done, because honestly, there’s always going to be something left undone. And that’s okay.
It reminded me of a verse from Philippians 1:6: “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
We are a work in progress, and that’s what makes this journey with God so beautiful. He’s the one finishing the work in us—He started it, and He’ll complete it when the time is right.
And in those moments when we feel overwhelmed by all that’s unfinished in our lives, maybe it’s enough to focus on the present, just for today. Jesus tells us, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Not all the bread for tomorrow, not the whole loaf at once, just enough for today. Today’s enough.
So, let the unfinished be a reminder that God’s still at work in you, in me, in all of us. There’s grace in the process, even in the mess. Let’s trust that, day by day, He’s making us whole, one step at a time.
